The first of many new drugs launched in the UK by Pfizer, the world’s largest maker of erectile dysfunction drugs, has been approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), after it was announced that one of its top-selling products, Viagra Connect, has been approved by the government for sale on the NHS.
Pfizer said the first of many new drugs launched in the UK by Pfizer, the world’s largest manufacturer of erectile dysfunction drugs, was announced at itsNHS Connect website, which is the world’s leading online health support and treatment service for erectile dysfunction.
Pfizer is also the UK’s first major global consumer healthcare company to launch a product for erectile dysfunction, the drug known as sildenafil citrate, which has already been approved by the MHRA for sale on the NHS.
In addition to sildenafil, the drug has been approved by the MHRA for sale in the UK for a total of £9.6bn, while it is for sale on the NHS for £1.7bn.
Pfizer’s product is a new drug that contains a small amount of sildenafil in each tablet, which has been designed to mimic the effects of a natural erectile dysfunction drug known as Viagra, the UK’s largest selling prescription drug.
The drug, which is marketed as a generic version of Viagra, contains the same active ingredient, sildenafil citrate, which has been in clinical trials for more than 10 years.
The active ingredient in the new drug is sildenafil, which is marketed as the brand-name Viagra Connect.
Pfizer has announced the first of its three launches for erectile dysfunction drugs, which will begin in the summer of 2013, with the company launching two new product launches – one for erectile dysfunction and the other for men with erectile dysfunction.
In addition to the first of the three drugs for erectile dysfunction and men with erectile dysfunction, the first of two new products to be launched is a treatment for erectile dysfunction in men with the condition called “erectile dysfunction”.
Viagra Connect, which is already available on the NHS and available on the private prescription drug programme, will cost £10 per tablet and will only be available by prescription from a GP.
A further eight men with erectile dysfunction will be eligible for the new drug – all with the same sexual dysfunction diagnosis as their general male counterparts, according to Pfizer.
The drug is a prescription-only drug, meaning it requires a prescription from a GP, and has to be taken at least 2 hours before sex, with the usual starting dose of sildenafil citrate typically between 100 mg and 250 mg taken about 1 hour before sex.
Men with erectile dysfunction who are prescribed sildenafil for a dose above 100 mg should not take the drug and should see a GP for a suitable dose of the drug.
In addition to sildenafil, the drug is also used to treat pulmonary hypertension.
“Our first launch has been a very successful experience for men with erectile dysfunction, with millions of men coming into the UK from around the world,” said Pfizer chairman and chief executive Ian Read, chief executive.
“Viagra Connect has revolutionised the treatment of erectile dysfunction for men who have the underlying condition of erectile dysfunction.”
The drug, which is sold under the brand name Viagra Connect, is sold in tablets of 50mg, 100mg, 200mg, 400mg, 600mg and 800mg, and is available to buy in tablet form.
Pfizer’s launch has been very successful for both men and couples in the UK, with many men in both the UK and across the world seeing increased interest in the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
For men who have erectile dysfunction and have not had a suitable treatment for a suitable response, Viagra Connect is suitable for them if the man is suffering from erectile dysfunction. In some cases, the drug can also be used to treat pulmonary hypertension.
For men with erectile dysfunction and not having suitable treatment for a suitable response, Viagra Connect is suitable for them if the man has suffered a stroke, heart attack, or other serious heart or blood vessel problems, and is over the age of 50.

Men in the UK will be able to buy Viagra over the counter after consulting with a pharmacist and without a prescription for the first time today.
ViagraConnect manufacturer, Pfizer, estimates more than a fifth of men aged over 18 in Britain suffer from erectile dysfunction, but almost half of those over 40 have not sought medical help.
The erectile dysfunction drug will be available in 14,000 stores across Britain and via pharmacy websites.
The tablets will be available exclusively from Boots until 10 April.
Those aged 18 and over will be able to buy the tablets following a conversation with a pharmacist or after filling out an online form. Men can ask to speak to a pharmacist in a private consultation room if preferred.
The pharmacists will determine whether treatment is appropriate for the patient and give advice on erectile dysfunction, usage of the medicine and potential side effects. They will advise men to consult with their doctor no less than six months after buying Viagra so that any potential underlying conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease can be investigated.
A Boots spokesperson said that the man affected by erectile dysfunction should buy the drug themselves wherever practically possible.
Men with severe heart problems, those at high risk of heart problems, liver failure, kidney failure, strokes or those taking certain other medicines, will still need to be prescribed the drug under the supervision of a doctor.
A four-pack of the tablets will cost £19.99 and an eight-pack £34.99.
Men who buy it will be advised that they can take a 50 mg tablet an hour before having sex, but should not use more than one pill a day.
Viagra is is already available as an NHS prescription free of charge for those eligible not to pay for their prescriptions.
The pharmacist will decide how many packs will be supplied in a transaction.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced in November it was to steer men away from buying the tablets from. In 2016 £17m worth of unlicensed and counterfeit Viagra was seized.
Kristie Sourial, Pfizer’s medical manager, said: “It’s important to remember that erectile dysfunction is a medical condition, and that the impact often goes beyond the physical symptoms – it can lead to men feeling anxious, depressed and lacking in confidence.
“Our hope is that the availability of Viagra Connect in pharmacies will encourage men who do nothing about their erectile dysfunction to seek help, and encourage those who are inclined to seek help to do so sooner.”
